What Makes Up Great Container Soil?

Container gardening is a great way to keep your garden looking great and to keep your thumbs green.

BUT what should your soil be composed of so your plants stay healthy and get enough water throughout the season?

You want a soil mix that will hold onto and make available enough water to sustain themselves, that provides enough air for plant roots, and that can properly anchor the plant to help support it’s stems, leaves, and flowers.

 

To provide these three basic plant needs, a general container soil needs to be made up of . . .

  • Peatmoss

  • Ground tree bark, like Pine or Fir or other bark, and

  • Perlite or Vermiculite
