What does moisture have to do with sowing seeds this winter (or anytime of year)?

You already know that you can sow many different plants this winter, if you listened to our last DIY episode, 181.

But, you might not know the important role moisture plays in getting your seeds to germinate.

Moisture is one of the key ingredients for seeds to germinate.

Seeds will germinate when they sense enough moisture around them and on their surface.

If seeds aren’t kept consistently moist they then won’t be triggered to break open and start to grow your new plant.

This is why you need to always check your seeds after sowing to make sure they are kept consistently moist with wet soil around them, including any soil or vermiculite on top of them.

Also make sure they aren’t so wet that they are consistently swimming either.

If kept too wet, you might get the seeds to germinate, but then they could suffocate and or rot.

Seeds You Can Sow Right Now
