Learn about bulb planting tools you can use this fall (or spring) that will save you time (and effort) in this quick, informative podcast.
Daffodils, Tulips, Calla Lilies, Allium, Crocus. So many bulbs, so little time.
You’ve literally stocked up on so many garden bulbs this fall that you’re now wondering how you will possibly find the time to get them all in the ground before the threat of frost!
Luckily, we’re here to tell you that not only did we buy too many fall bulbs (like, hundreds), we have great suggestions for you that will help you plant them in very little time (including this tool that we used which is amazing).
This quick podcast will cover the best tools to help you plant your flowering bulbs in as little time as possible. We won’t, however, cover specific how-to steps to plant your bulbs. For a more in-depth bulb planting guide, you might be interested in checking this out. In this podcast (and on the page below), learn about great tools for planting garden bulbs as well as these other awesome supplies you may need to get started.
This episode is perfect for a beginning gardener or new homeowner who wants to learn useful tips about bulb planting.
Bulb Planting Tools
We have two tool options for you to consider below.
1) For Digging By Hand
If you want to get some exercise, be one with nature, and hand-dig all your new bulb holes, these three tools are what you will need:
- A Bulb Planting-Trowel with depth markings on it to track how deep you are digging with each scoop. It’s also useful for transplanting other plants around your yard.
- A bulb-planting tool that you can push into the soil pull out and press your thumb on the handle to excavate soil-cores in specific locations. It’s like a manual post-hole digger, but miniature.
- A dibber, or spike on a handle to punch into the soil to make a specific, precise bulb planting hole.
This Tabor Tools 3-piece bulb planting tool set includes all three of these tools in one set. The premarked depths on the planter make it really easy to ensure the correct bulb-planting depth which we really appreciate.
This hand-digging method using these tools will take you a bit of time on your hands and knees digging holes (again, depending on how many bulbs you need to plant) but would be a fun way to play in the dirt! However, if you want to save some time, then you need to consider this other tool!
2) For Faster Bulb Planting
This bulb and bedding plant auger. You will still get some exercise, but if you have less time to work in the yard and/or you have tons of bulbs to plant (like we do this year), then this drill bit is EXACTLY what you need! Using the 3/8 drill bit, this tool can dig holes in all kinds of dirt in so much less time!
The Bulb and Bedding Plant Auger by Power Planter is a small auger you can attach to your hand-held drill. This will save you time and energy to plant most of your bulbs, like Daffodils, Tulips, Grape Hyacinth, and much more! You can also visit the Power Planter website here to see all of their great products.
