3 Free Local Mulch Sources

Mulch does so much and brings so many benefits for our gardens and plants. It retains moisture for plants to take up. It insulates plant roots, decreases erosion and soil compaction, suppresses weeds, and sooo much more. If you are looking for free local sources of mulch, here are three sources to get delivered to your home:

  1. GetChipDrop.com – This is a great source of free mulch. You need to know that you will generally get anywhere from 10-20 yards in one load. Also, it could take up to 6-weeks before you get your mulch delivery. It’s arborist chips and you also have the option to also get tree-rounds. Make sure to read all the information on the website and be familiar with their terms and conditions before signing up for a chip delivery.
  2. Your local city or county Parks and Recreation entity – they are usually doing lots of tree and brush clearing work where they produce arborist chip and have limited space to take it. They might already have a waiting list of local residents who want the free chip, so get on the list as soon as you can. Plus, just like chipdrop, you shouldn’t have to pay for delivery. This could be a different chip material than arborist chip, so make sure to find out what is available.
  3. Private Tree Companies and Arborists – these companies are great to partner with. They might not be a part of chipdrop due to the cost to them to use that service, so you can reach out to them directly and see if they have any upcoming tree work where you could have them deliver arborist chip to your location.
